Everyone who understands the importance of having Google like their website is always looking for a silver bullet to solve the problem.  The truth is that it does not exist.  A few years back there used to be easier ways to do things, but then Google rolled out a couple of updates code named Panda and Penguin that changed things drastically.  All of the things we used to do to easily optimize a website for Google didn't work any more, that work became very hard.

So, you may ask, what is one to do?  If you are a larger website that already has all of the basics done you need to call in or hire a professional.  However, if you are just starting out, especially if you are a local business, there is some good news.  One of the best websites for rating websites for search engine optimization (SEO) is moz.com and they have a tool that is free for anyone to use that will help a small business get on the search engines and get a little jump start on SEO.  That page is, GetListed.org.  Using it is simple, enter your business name and your zip code and see if it can find your website, if not then you can add it.  Once you have your website in it will help you go through the process of submitting your website to all of the most important places that are free to submit to.  It is a lot of work but DIY stuff usually is.
